Report Types: Your New Magic Wand
Reports in Salesforce are an incredible tool. Comparing data you’ve worked hard to enter or migrate into the system is one of its most powerful abilities. Have you ever tried to compare two seemingly related parts only to find that the report won’t let you do it? Like say displaying Contacts for a given Account. It can get pretty frustrating when it just won’t work.
All is not lost though, and chances are you just need a Custom Report Type. This little feature is buried in Salesforce and tough to find if you don’t know its there! Essentially, by creating a new Report Type, you are drawing a link between two objects that don’t yet have anything officially linking them on the backend. Once you have the new Report Type built and the appropriate fields you need in the layout, that report will work it’s magic!
